Artist Statement
Art is the kinetic energy that weaves my everyday experiences together. Under the Andean night sky, accompanied by candlelight, I was nourished with stories of supernatural beings and transmuting forms wandering the streets in and the mountains surrounding the city of my birth Ayacucho, Peru. Seeking to understand that which was present yet unseen, I earned a keen sense of perception. I later developed an ability to recreate and give form to those images that were permanently alive in my head. Through the act of sculpting, I interpret and translate the nuances of organic forms and experiences. I bring to life sculptures that reconnect me with my lived experiences, telling a story from a place of intimacy and authenticity.
Aligning with cultures, emotions, moments, and places, I am enriched through dialogue with the community. I aspire that my sculptures connect the diverse realities that people experience in their daily lives. Reciprocal and relational my work is about the relationship between sculpture and person with moments of shared meaning. These tactile pieces engage individuals to physically interact with my work while exploring issues relating to identity. My designs are also influenced by rituals and the use of iconography of ancestral and contemporary cultures. My works are a metaphor that alludes to the natural environment and the present society and its rituality.
